Soul - Ostara is the spring fertility festival, It’s a time to plant the seeds for what you want to grow throughout the year both in the garden and in your life. Seed shoots and micro greens are a great was of getting extra nutrients at this difficult time of year and can easily be grown on your kitchen window whilst preseved stocks are beginning to get low. We will learn about how to get the most out of your nuts and seeds and cook up a delicious lunch from sprouted beans and pulses and preserved veg. Feasting and merriment are part of celebrations of Ostara as the energy of spring rises up. It is also a time of ritual cleaning to sweep away old patterns and bring in renewal, so its a good time to begin new ways of eating and nourishing your body and soul.

Whether you are a complete novice, or a seasoned gardener we will be exploring a wide range of topics across the year. From soil health and why it matters to seed sowing and propagation.
Jan and our guest speakers will take you through our regenerative growing ethos where soil and gut biodiversity is at the heart of all we grow. Polly will take you through the foods we are growing to give you understanding their health benefits, what to cook with them and how to preserve their goodness through the seasons.
This is a truly regenerative series. With a strong emphasis on organic no dig and permaculture techniques, each workshop explores different seasonal tasks in the garden, which will enable you to grow a wide range of healthy food, which will benefit both your own health and that of the land.
The workshops can be taken as individual sessions or as complete food growing course. Each workshop will include feasting from the fire and a chance to cook with Polly as well as plenty of advice and practical practice.
This course will bust a lot of myths around growing your own food and really show you the joy that can be found in rewilding your patch and embracing nature.

Ben grows for the best restaurants in Yorkshire and beyond. By visiting through the seasons you will have exclusive viewing of what Ben is growing and we will cook and eat food straight from his garden.

These workshops are in the safety of nature we will be in an open barn or poly tunnel and we will feast around the fire on the food grown around us please dress approiately for the weather.
Who we are:
Jan Hoyland is a widely experienced horticulturalist. She is an expert in rewilding land, Permiculture, no dig and biodiversity. She is passionately knowledgeable about soil health and the role plants play in the health of our health. Regnerative growing is a combination of all these philosophies and this course will teach you all you need to know. She is a passionate advocate of sustainable and beautiful gardens which can benefit wildlife as well as people. She qualified in Horticulture from Askham Bryan College, York, and trained at Cambridge University Botanic Gardens before working for many years as a Head Gardener for the National Trust and as Curator of the Yorkshire Arboretum, Kew at Castle Howard.
Polly Baldwin - Gut health and regenerative wellbeing expert. Founder of Jolly Allotment and Retreat Fire Cook. Polly regenerated her own health through food and nourishment when she was told there was nothing modern medicine could offer her to improve her debilitating symptoms. So she turned to natures medical cabinet and the soil for help. She now speaks, cooks and shares her knowledge to help others improve their own physical and emotional health through good food and reconnecting with their primal human needs.
There will also be surprise guest speakers at some of our workshops.
Weather policy: This event is all about reconnecting with nature and the elements so much of the day will be outside or in a warm poly tunnel whatever the weather so please dress sensibly in warm coats and shoes. We will be eating under the rather beautiful canvas tent. If we have to reschedule because of the high winds, we will move your ticket to the new date.
Cancellation policy : No refunds unless exceptional circumstances. Ticket prices include a £3.00 nonrefundable booking fee. We will try to move you to another date and resell your ticket if the event is sold out. If for any reason Jolly Allotment Ltd have to cancel the day we will refund you the ticket or give you the option to move to a new date.
Dietary Requirements: I cater for all dietary needs except regrettably Nut allergies, I hate not being able to cater for you nut allergic friends, but my kitchen is completely coeliac friendly and I use a lot of nuts. I know how much havoc trace gluten has on me and I cannot guarantee cross contamination of nuts, I am so sorry!
Food Mannifesto: All the seasonal food will have full provenance. It will be as local and as organic or regenerative as possible, we have the most wonderful farmers here in Yorkshire.
Change of speakers: In exceptional circumstances our speakers may be subject to change but will always be beautiful people with a similar message and experience.
